The Overseas Chinese Town Group will organize a string of activities at its six subvenues of the 14th China International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) from today to Monday.

OCT-LOFT

With contemporary art, creative design and avant-garde music as its features, OCT-LOFT will offer a range of entertaining and inspiring events, with the theme of “Infinity” for ICIF.

New art installations for the “Beyond the Scenery” public art exhibition have been installed in OCT-LOFT, creating a recreational experience for visitors. Inspired by the form of traditional Chinese gardens, the exhibition connects gardening culture with contemporary art.

On May 17-20, seven bands from France, China, Britain, Germany, Japan and Democratic Republic of Congo will present live gigs every night at the fifth Tomorrow Festival, an annual music event showcasing the latest in avant-garde music.

OCAT Shenzhen’s photo exhibition “Follow_Me: New Narratives in Contemporary Photography, China-Switzerland” is still open to the public until June. Other painting and photography exhibitions and free design lectures will also be held at various locations at OCT-LOFT.

Visitors can pick up chic gadgets and vintage items at the open-air T-Street Creative Bazaar on May 10-13, where more than 70 creative gadget designers, collectors and handicraft enthusiasts will set up shop.

Gankeng New Township

Located in Longgang District, Gankeng New Township is a Hakka-style scenic spot developed by the Overseas Chinese Town Group. With the traditional Hakka hat as Gankeng’s logo, the town will launch the Little Hakka International Picture Book Awards this afternoon at Nanxiang Tower.

Every day between May 10 and 14 and every weekend until June 3, Hakka-inspired illustrated children’s books will be on display at the town’s tourist service center. Workshops to make VR goggles (May 19), print paintings (May 26) and dyes from plants (June 2) will be held in afternoons at various venues. The Shenzhen VR movie “Egret Returns,” which won an award at last year’s Venice Film Festival, is screened every day at the VR Galley inside the town.

OCT Harbour

Yunnan intangible cultural heritage art will be showcased May 11-13 at O’Plaza, along with a salon featuring travelers sharing about their experiences in Yunnan on May 12. Painting (May 12, 19, 26) and knitting (May 12) workshops for children will also be held at O’Plaza.

Happy Valley

On May 19 and 20, an animation comic game dancing competition, a cosplay contest and an animation singing show will be held at the Happy Theater inside Happy Valley.

Splendid China · Folk Culture Villages

In collaboration with Sichuan Province, the Yi minority people will showcase their unique cultural and rich historical value from May 16 to 18, in the forms of calligraphy, painting and handicrafts. Moreover, photos and items from other Chinese ethnic groups, such as Tibetan thangka, Naxi paintings and Hani bamboo-knitting, are also on display until May 15.

Window of the World

A carnival at the Window of the World theme park will feature Oceanican, African, Southeast Asian and South American dances from May 13 to 20.
