Shenzhen has once again demonstrated its innovative spirit in public transportation by launching two distinct bus services — one designed for pet owners and the other for cycling enthusiasts. These initiatives aim to make travel more inclusive, convenient, and enjoyable for all residents, whether they’re bringing along four-legged family members or heading out for two-wheeled adventures.

Pet-friendly bus lines

For years, pet owners in Shenzhen have wanted to bring their dogs or cats on a bus ride. Now, that dream is becoming reality with two pet-friendly routes: H239 and H239B.

Both routes terminate at Wangjingkeng Pet Camp, a popular destination for local pet owners in Xili, Nanshan District. Along the way, the buses stop at multiple Metro stations, making it easy for “fur parents” and their furry companions to board.

The pet-friendly buses operate only on weekends and public holidays.

Terminals

H239: Deyefeng Business Center, Wangjingkeng Pet Camp

H239B: Qinghu Metro Station, Wangjingkeng Pet Camp

Booking: Tickets must be purchased and seats reserved in advance via the “優點出行” app or its WeChat miniprogram.

Fare: 20 yuan (US$2.92) per person

The cycling bus service makes cross-district cycling and hiking easier.

Cycling buses

Shenzhen Bus Group has introduced seven cycling-friendly routes and four hiking shuttle lines, which operate only on weekends and public holidays.

Booking: Tickets can be purchased via the “深巴出行” WeChat miniprogram. Navigate to the “騎行專區” (Cycling Special Lines) section, click “經典線路” (Classic Routes) and select your desired route.

Cycling route 1

Terminals: Qianhaiwan Metro Station, Dameisha Beach

Highlights: Enjoy a panoramic view spanning from Shenzhen Bay to Dapeng Bay.

Fare: 20 yuan

Cycling route 2

Terminals: Liantang Checkpoint, National Geopark

Highlights: Traverse the mountain-sea corridor in Yantian District, passing Dameisha, Beizai Corner, and Rose Coast.

Fare: 30 yuan

Cycling route 3

Terminals: Liantang Checkpoint, Shifeng Industrial Zone

Highlights: Stretching from the foot of Wutong Mountain in the east to Shiyan Lake Ring Greenway and Maozhou River Eco-Corridor in the west, seamlessly switching between urban parks and waterfront paths.

Fare: 25 yuan

Cycling route 4

Terminals: Anquan Baiquange Bus Terminal, Fenghuang Yinghuicheng Bus Terminal

Highlights: Passes through cycling hotspots such as Xili Lake and Shiyan Lake.

Fare: 20 yuan

Terminals: Bao’an Haiya Mega Mall, Dameisha Beach

Highlights: A quick west-to-east ride directly to the Meisha seaside — time-saving and effortless.

Terminals: Longhua Second Experimental School, Yantian Seafood Street

Highlights: Direct service from Longhua’s center, dropping you off at the most scenic section of the coastal boardwalk.

Terminals: Bao’an Haiya Mega Mall, Dongguan Dapingzhang Forest Park

Highlights: Breaks down the cycling barrier between Shenzhen and Dongguan, providing direct access to Dongguan’s “natural oxygen bar,” Dapingzhang Forest Park.

Fare: 40 yuan
